Stardome Trip

This week we visited Stardome to learn about how the sun affects our planet. It was loads of fun and we also had a walk up to One Tree Hill. Watch the video of our trip and let us know what you know about the effects of the sun on our planet.

  1. I would like to know how the Sun causes the different Earth hemispheres to have opposite seasons. If this could be explained to me I would be very impressed and would bestow stickers galore.
Is anyone going to accept my challenge?

    1. Our earth is on a tilt so the southen hemisphere might be having summer beacause we would be having dierect sunlight. The other side would not be having dierect sunlight so the nothen hemisphere would be having winter. When its in between we will have summer and spring

    2. The Earths Axis is on a tilt of 24.3 degrees and it stays on the same tilt so when the Earth orbits the Sun.So when its summer in the southern hemisphere the the southern hemisphere is receiving more direct sunlight
which means its the oppposite on the northern hemisphere and its the opposite FOR EVER.

  2. There is a tilt in the Earth which means that if the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun they are getting direct sunlight which makes it summer. While in the southern hemisphere they are tilted away from the sun which makes it winter. Soon the earth will orbit around the sun and then we will have spring and then after a while summer.

  3. there is a tilt in the earth. so that means if the southern hemisphere is facing towards the boiling sun they are getting direct sunlight which therefore it is summer.

Which means in the northern hemisphere the earth is tilt away from the sun pretty much makes it winter.

Later the earth earth will orbit when going around the sun and after we would have spring.

  4. Great explanations. I'd love to see a demonstration using balls. I'll come up and see you tomorrow and I'll remember to bring my stickers. :)

  5. The earth is on a 23.4 tilt from the axis, so at one point the top is leaning to the left and the other point the right, or the same with if the earth facing or not facing the sun. So the hemisphere which recives more sunlight is having Summer or Spring.

  6. That trip was awesome!!!!!
The walk was really long, but my legs nedded a stretch from being on the bus.
And I learnt a lot from stardome, such as the earth is on a 23.4 degress tilt, and that when the southern hemisphere is asleep it is facing the moon so the southern hemisphere can not feel the suns heat and can not see the sun either.
